چکیده

The Prize-Collecting Steiner Tree Problem (PCST) on a graph with edge costs and vertex profits asks for a subtree minimizing the sum of the total cost of all edges in the subtree plus the total profit of all vertices not contained in the subtree. PCST appears in the design of utility networks (eg. fiber optics or district heating) where profit generating customers and the network connecting them have to be chosen in the most profitable way. The primary focus of this paper is the construction of a branch-and-cut algorithm based on a directed graph model and connectivity inequalities corresponding to cuts in the graph. This enables us to efficiently separate sets of violated inequalities using a maximum flow algorithm. Our method solves all benchmark instances from the literature to optimality, including eight for which the optimum was not known. We also present optimal results on very large real world instances that represent fiber optic networks in a German

Reduction Techniques for the Prize-Collecting Steiner Tree Problem and the Maximum-Weight Connected Subgraph Problem

The concept of reduction has frequently distinguished itself as a pivotal ingredient of exact solving approaches for the Steiner tree problem in graphs. In this paper we broaden the focus and consider reduction techniques for three Steiner problem variants that have been extensively discussed in the literature and entail various practical applications: The prize-collecting Steiner tree problem,...

Transformations for the Prize-Collecting Steiner Tree Problem and the Maximum-Weight Connected Subgraph Problem to SAP

Transformations of Steiner tree problem variants have been frequently discussed in the literature. Besides allowing to easily transfer complexity results, they constitute a central pillar of exact state-of-the-art solvers for well-known variants such as the Steiner tree problem in graphs. In this paper transformations for both the prize-collecting Steiner tree problem and the maximum-weight con...

A 4-Approximation Algorithm for k-Prize Collecting Steiner Tree Problems

This paper studies a 4-approximation algorithm for k-prize collecting Steiner tree problems. This problem generalizes both k-minimum spanning tree problems and prize collecting Steiner tree problems. Our proposed algorithm employs two 2-approximation algorithms for k-minimum spanning tree problems and prize collecting Steiner tree problems. Also our algorithm framework can be applied to a speci...

On the performance of a cavity method based algorithm for the Prize-Collecting Steiner Tree Problem on graphs

Abstract We study the behavior of an algorithm derived from the cavity method for the Prize-Collecting Steiner Tree (PCST) problem on graphs. The algorithm is based on the zero temperature limit of the cavity equations and as such is formally simple (a fixed point equation resolved by iteration) and distributed (parallelizable). We provide a detailed comparison with state-of-the-art algorithms ...
